YouTube video productions shortlist chosen for Guggenheim exhibit A number of YouTube videos are to feature in a new exhibit at the Guggenheim museum.
The increasing role of online video productions in modern culture is perhaps highlighted by an upcoming museum exhibit.
Called YouTube Play: A Biennial of Creative Video, the exhibit will be held at the world-renowned Guggenheim museum in New York, as well as its branches in Bilbao, Berlin and Venice.
This week, the Guggenheim picked a 125-video shortlist from more than 23,000 clips that were submitted for the competition.
A YouTube Play jury will select no more than 20 videos for the exhibit, which will begin on October 22nd.
Speaking to Agence France Presse, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who is on the judging panel, said: "We artists can no longer call ourselves artists just by discovering and providing something special.
"In a way, YouTube is a medium inciting revolution and terrifying us with a Katana (samurai sword). We must challenge YouTube on a daily basis."
Last week, former US president Bill Clinton took part in an interview shown on YouTube featuring questions submitted by the site's users.
