New figures have highlighted the growing trend for watching online video productions.
The latest comScore Video Metrix report has found that YouTube achieved record levels of viewing activity in May with an all-time high of 14.6 billion videos viewed by US internet users.
It was also the first time the video streaming service surpassed the threshold of 100 videos viewed per user.
Some 183 million people in the US viewed an online video production during May, up from 178 million the month before.
In total, 34 billion internet videos were watched, meaning each viewer accessed an average of 185.6 videos each.
Google sites, principally YouTube, remained the most popular place to watch online video accounting for 43.1 per cent of all videos viewed.
The most popular video provider was Hulu, making up 3.5 per cent of views.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the recent World Cup game between England and Slovenia saw the BBC report record numbers of internet users visiting its online streaming service.
