YouTube launches new mobile site New site designed to be quicker and offers more features.
Google has upgraded the mobile version of its video production sharing site YouTube.
The new site, which is designed specifically for access by mobile internet devices such as smartphones, is designed to deliver better quality video productions at a faster speed.
It is based on the new HTML5 web standard which means the videos can be played directly through mobile devices' web browsers.
Furthermore, it has been updated with enhanced social networking features to make it easier to share video links on Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz.
"We tried to make it so snappy and so fast, but run in any browser across platforms," Andrey Doronichev, YouTube's mobile product manager, told Reuters.
In addition, the mobile site comes with a host of new features that were previously only available on the main version of YouTube - such as an option to create playlists and search query suggestions.
The most important thing about this new product is consistency," Doronichev said. "We tried really hard to make it consistent with what you're getting on the desktop."
YouTube mobile now receives over 100 million video playbacks a day, it was recently revealed.
