YouTube exec: This is only the beginning of online-video revolution

Photo for this news articleKevin Yen, a director at YouTube, says online video still has masses of potential to exploit.

Online video productions still have a long way to go to reach their full potential, it has been claimed, despite already being a major force in media.

That is the opinion of Kevin Yen, director of strategic partnerships at video sharing site YouTube.

In an article for cnet.com, he outlined his belief that the online video industry still has further to develop as people become more adept at working with the medium.

"When it comes to the online-video revolution, we haven't even gotten past the first inch of the first yard," Mr Yen wrote.

"There are many, many more years to come that will usher in more innovation, more users, and more smart and ambitious content creators."

In particular, he noted the growth of revenue generated by video from both advertising and rental, the latter being a business model still in its infancy.

YouTube now gets over two billion visits to the site a day, newly-released figures reveal.
