YouTube celebrates five years of streaming video productions Chief executive promises more innovations after five years of YouTube.
This Sunday (February 14th) saw YouTube celebrate five years of streaming online video production.
The website was started in 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Just a year and eight months later it was bought by Google for $1.6 billion (£1.02 billion).
On the company's blog, chief executive Chad Hurley marked the occasion by promising to continue to improve the service.
"The internet evolves at break-neck speed. We launch products quickly and constantly iterate to stay one step ahead of it," he said He hinted to some developments YouTube users could expect in the future, saying: "And whether we're supporting 1080p, 3D, or deploying auto-speech recognition technology, we innovate with an eye toward providing the best possible experience for all of you."
Current figures show that over 20 hours of video are uploaded onto YouTube every minute and one billion videos are watched on the site every day.
