YouTube adds tools for political video productions New You Choose 2010 Campaign Toolkit aims to help politicians make use of YouTube during campaigns.
Video streaming site YouTube has launched a range of tools to help politicians use the site to post campaign video productions during elections.
It follows the increasingly significant role played by social media, and YouTube in particular, in recent political campaigns such as the US presidential election and the recent British General Election.
To this end, YouTube has launched the You Choose 2010 Campaign Toolkit as well as a new and improved Google Campaign Toolkit.
New features include a Politician channel (which allows campaigns to brand their channel and upload longer videos), and access to free analytics service YouTube Insight.
Information is also provided in regards to running paid political advertising campaigns using formats such as in-stream ads and promoted videos.
"We hope campaigns in both national and local contests will use these toolkits to engage and inform voters on important issues in 2010," Ginny Hunt, head of public sector programs, on the websites blog.
"As access to information online is increasingly important in elections, we're pleased to continue developing useful tools for voters and candidates."
The Labour Party used YouTube to launch its manifesto A Future Fair For All in the run-up to the 2010 General Election.
