Video production websites must work harder to retain visitors, says expert

With broadband speeds increasing, websites must work harder to capture the attention of impatient visitors, an expert has claimed.

One of the ways this could be done is by using internet video production, which can take advantage of faster broadband.

Leigh Whitney, managing director of website design agency Design UK, said the rewards for converting visitors into customers were potentially huge.

"Just a 0.1 per cent rise in conversion rates can increase profits by millions of pounds," he said. "It's vital that in the first second of a site opening, users see everything they need to keep them engaged and exploring the site."

His comments come after a new study revealed that average broadband speeds in the UK have increased significantly during the last year.

Analysts at broadband.co.uk revealed that the average broadband speed at the beginning of 2009 was 3.667Mbps. By the end of the year this has grown to an average speed of 4.478Mbps– a 22 per cent increase.ADNFCR-2863-ID-19543625-ADNFCR
