Video important to social media marketing

The benefits of adding a video to a social media website business page have been highlighted.

Amanda Brooke, writing on the website Drop Ship Access, urged people to create a video and make sure that it is available to a wide audience.

"Every person who shares your video is helping you with your job of social media marketing," she wrote.

"Sharing is the cornerstone of going viral."

Ms Brooke added that it was also a good idea to put a video on YouTube once it has been made as it makes it "instantly share-able".

IKEA has previously utilised an unusual marketing campaign through Facebook.

To celebrate the opening of a new store in Sweden, users were given the chance to tag themselves on pictures of furniture – those who got there first won the prize.

Such an innovative campaign allowed IKEA to let the brand take on a life of its own, as fans of the shop spread the news about the offer themselves rather than the brand forcing it on people.
