US online marketing predicted to overtake print in 2010 Marketers will spend $119.6 billion on online and digital marketing in 2010, it has been claimed.
Video productions could gain more exposure if predicted trends in the US prove to be correct.
According to research firm Outsell, spending on online and digital marketing will overtake print in the US for the first time this year.
It predicts companies will outlay a total of $111.5 billion (£74.9 billion) to print methods such as newspaper and magazine advertising.
However, $119.6 billion (£80.3 billion) will be earmarked for online marketing such as search engine optimisation and corporate videos.
"Advertisers are directing dollars toward the channels which generate the most qualified leads and most effective branding," said Chuck Richard, vice president and lead analyst at Outsell.
"As they emerge from the recession, they need more accountability, and they're spreading their spending over a widening set of options."
The news comes at the same time as the latest comScore Video Metrix report, which found 12.7 billion YouTube videos were watched by people in the US in January with the number of viewers reaching an all-time high of 173 million.
