US mobile video productions to double reach by 2013 Number of US mobile users watching video to rise in coming years.
The number of people in the US using their mobiles to watch video productions is expected to rise dramatically in the next few years.
According to forecasts from eMarketer, the number of mobile users watching video productions in the country will double by 2013, raising the possibility of a similar pattern occurring among UK consumers.
By the end of 2010, eMarketer predicts there will be around 23.9 million mobile video viewers, equating to 9.7 per cent of mobile phone users and 7.7 per cent of the US population.
However, by 2013 this will reach 47.9 million users, accounting for 15 per cent of US citizens.
Noah Elkin, eMarketer senior analyst, said: "Video consumption on mobile phones can take place through various channels, including paid and free applications, mobile websites, pay-per-view downloads and subscriptions through mobile carriers."
It was recently reported that requests from mobile devices for programmes from BBC's iPlayer rose by one million in June compared to the month before.
