US internet users watch over 30 billion videos in November Nearly 40 per cent of videos viewed were on Google owned sites such as YouTube.
According to new data, the use of online video in the US has reached record highs.
ComScores report for November shows that almost 170 million internet users watched online video during the month.
Furthermore, the number of total views of online video reached nearly 31 billion, the first time it has topped the 30 billion mark.
Unsurprisingly, it was Google, owner of YouTube, which came out on top in terms of number of videos viewed and number of unique viewers.
Nearly 40 per cent, over 12 billion, of videos viewed were hosted by the search engine company. Its nearest competitor, Hulu, enjoyed only three per cent.
Furthermore, 75 per cent of the 170 million who watched internet videos did so on a Google site.
Interestingly, despite moves in the industry to provide more free full-length content such as TV programmes and films, the average video was a mere four minutes long.
Online video has become more accessible to internet users in the UK in the past year as new research shows broadband speeds have increased.
According to broadband.co.uk, speeds increased by 22 per cent on average during 2009.
