US internet users spend more time on Facebook than Google sites Total of 41.1 million minutes of US web users' time spent on Facebook in August.
The increasing popularity of Facebook could make the site a good platform for internet video productions.
According to new figures from comScore, US internet users now spend more time on Facebook than they do on all Google-owned sites, which include the likes of YouTube and Gmail.
People in the US spent a total of 41.1 million minutes on Facebook during August – approximately 9.9 per cent of their overall web use.
In comparison, 39.8 million minutes, or 9.6 per cent of web time, was spent on all of Google's sites.
Yahoo! sites took third place, with a total of 37.7 million minutes – a 9.1 per cent share.
The results demonstrate the rising popularity of both Google sites and Facebook in recent years.
For the same period in 2009, comSore figures show that they both captured only around five per cent of US internet users' time, while Yahoo! enjoyed over 12 per cent.
This week, Google launched its Google Instant search tool, which updates search results as the user types.
