UK companies not making most of SEO

Photo for this news articleReport finds nearly half of business websites have little or no SEO.

UK businesses are failing to utilise video productions and other methods to boost search engine optimisation (SEO) on their websites.

A new study by Analytics SEO on behalf of ThomsonLocal.com has found that nearly half (47 per cent) of all business websites have none or very basic levels of SEO.

Using a set of 30 criteria to measure SEO quality, Analytics SEO found that over 70 per cent of companies with less than 50 employees had almost no SEO on their sites.

In addition, 74 per cent had a complete lack of analytics software to track website visits.

Jill Pringle, marketing director at ThomsonLocal.com, said: "Local businesses need to wake up to the fact that investing in better quality websites with original content can bring them new customers more quickly, and ensuring that the website they build is search engine friendly is essential in today's market."

The report comes the same time as a comScore study, on behalf of Searchandise Commerce and iProspect, which found that nearly a fifth of consumers begin the shopping for an item with an online search.
