Sports stars join fight against aids in online video production Nike launches (Red) branded laces with YouTube video
Some of the world's leading sports stars have joined a campaign by Nike and (Red) to fight aids in Africa by taking part in a new online video production.
A YouTube video featuring the likes of football stars Didier Drogba and Andrei Arshavin, as well as big names from other sports like tennis player Maria Sharapova, has been released under the strap line Lace Up. Save Lives.
The video promotes a scheme by Nike whereby profits from their (Red) branded laces go to The Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria which funds medication for those living with HIV.
Chelsea star Didier Drogba, said: "Maybe people aren't aware but Aids is treatable and we want to encourage players and fans around the world to buy the laces and help fight this disease."
Companies whose products that carry the (Red) trademark donate a significant portion of the profits from that product to help fight Aids in Africa, with an emphasis on women and children.
An estimated 5,205 Africans contract HIV every day including 1,000 African children.
