Social Media forms a 'bond' with the customer Social media is a key part of online marketing, says expert.
Video productions, such as those posted on YouTube and Facebook, are becoming an increasingly common part of social media.
It has been claimed that social sites such as these can play an important role in companies' marketing activities.
Tristan Garrick, PR manager for the Direct Marketing Association, believes this is down to the 'bond' that it helps create between the firm and its customers.
"It's just a great opportunity for consumers to take the brand in their own hands, pick it apart, play around with it and actually form a closer relationship for pulling information out of rather having information pushed to them," he commented.
Social media is part of Web 2.0 – websites and applications that give visitors the option to interact with each other.
A recent study by software security company Clearswift revealed the increasing importance Web 2.0 has in relation to brands.
It found that over 90 per cent of companies believe that Web 2.0 technologies are useful in terms of increasing brand awareness
"It is phenomenally important. Social media marketing is already taking off hugely in the last couple of years," said Mr Garrick.
