Smartphones to boost online video market? Consumers demand free, permanent internet access from their smartphones, says expert.
Access to online video productions could be significantly increased thanks to the popularity of smartphones.
According to one expert, smartphones, such as the Apple iPhone and Google Nexus One, will provide consumers with permanent, mobile access to the internet.
Leigh Geary, from online mobile news forum CoolSmartPhone.com, claimed mobile networks realise they need to offer good internet packages to meet consumer demand.
He said: "Twitter, instant email, Facebook and YouTube have brought [mobile] internet widespread popularity and consumers of all smartphones expect them to be online, getting this data, all the time.
"They don't expect a big bill for it either, and networks are slowly realising that, in order to sell these phones, they must offer a competitive data plan."
Figures published last week (February 4th) by market intelligence firm IDC show that the popularity of smartphones has reached a record level.
Vendors shipped a total of 54.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2009, up 39 per cent from the same quarter a year ago, it was reported.
