Political leaders to use online video productions in run-up to election Gordon Brown, Nick Clegg and David Cameron to answer public's questions via videos on YouTube and Facebook.
The leaders of the UK's three main political parties have agreed to answer questions from the public using video productions on YouTube and Facebook.
Internet users will be able to submit questions to Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron via the sites on a series of topics such as health and the economy.
The three government hopefuls will then record video responses to those queries and post them online.
Richard Allan, Facebook's director of policy, said: "By allowing voters to cross-examine their leaders, these digital debates will put the voters firmly in charge.
"This marks a decisive shift away from the constraints of top-down traditional media and will take full advantage of the unique scale and reach of Facebook, thus changing the way that politicians campaign for good."
It follows a similar move by Barack Obama earlier this year, who became the first US president to be interviewed on YouTube, taking questions from members of the general public.
