Online video productions becoming increasingly attractive to advertisers, says report Online video advertising spending predicted to grow 48 per cent in 2010.
The continued development of video productions on the web is likely to lead in a rapid rise in the number of brands that use the format for advertising, it has been predicted.
According to a study by online research firm eMarketer, it is estimated online video advertising spending will grow more than 48 per cent in 2010, reaching $1.5 billion (£980 million), reports adweek.com
By 2014, this will have increased to over $5.5 billion (£3.6 billion), eMarketer predicts.
David Hallerman, a senior analyst at eMarketer, said the reason for this growth was the greater measuribility and targeting online video productions provide advertisers, compared to television.
"The continued development of more professional-quality video on the Web makes the target audience more receptive to advertiser messages and thereby encourages advertisers to spend more for video ads," he added.
It follows recent comments from the new secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt.
He said that the popularity of the internet had created a "huge opportunity" for the UK's media industry.
