Expenditure on video productions used as online advertising has seen "spectacular" growth, a new report has found.
According to research by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers, year on year video advertising spend has grown by 140 per cent, reaching £28.3 million.
In total, £3.5 billion was outlaid on internet advertising in 2009, an increase of 4.2 per cent.
Paid search also saw significant growth, rising by 9.5 per cent to reach £2.15 billion.
Guy Phillipson, chief executive officer of the IAB, said: "In the past year we've seen some real success stories as search passed the £2 billion mark, and online video advertising experienced spectacular growth.
"And with sectors such as retail and consumer goods increasing their spending on the internet we can look forward to a healthier 2010."
Video productions have been shown to have a significant effect on consumers. A recent study by .Fox Networks and ComScore found that people are 28 percent more likely to visit a site for which they have seen online video advertising.
