Online shopping increases at highest rate in 2 years World Cup helps online retailers to 22 per cent rise in sales during May.
Companies that use video production to promote online stores will be buoyed by the news that internet retail sales have risen dramatically over the past year.
According to the latest IMRG Capgemini e-retail Sales Index, online sales saw a total spend of £4.5bn in May, a year-on-year rise of 22 per cent – the fastest rate of increase seen in over two years.
Online shopping rose three per cent compared to April, said the report, with sales believed to have been boosted by the Fifa World Cup.
IMRG spokeswoman Tina Spooner said: "In the year to date, the UK e-retail market has grown 14 per cent, which is in line with our predictions for this year.
"With recent research suggesting that over half of consumers believe the economy is now recovering from the recession, it is evident that e-retailers have already started to benefit from an increase in consumer spending."
Alcohol sales were up 23 per cent while electronics rose by 13 per cent as football fans invested in new TVs to watch the tournament in South Africa.
Many retailers may wish to employ online video productions as part of marketing campaigns. For example, Waitrose recently launched its own YouTube channel featuring videos starring Heston Blumenthal and Delia Smith.
