Obama marketer discusses online video

Photo for this news articleAn internet marketer who worked on the Obama election campaign has spoken about the unpredictability of the online world.

The benefits of making small changes to websites has been highlighted by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Dan Siroker, who worked as part of the analytics team for the Obama presidential campaign in the US, told the publication that "small things" can help people sign up.

However, he added that online audiences can sometimes be difficult to predict.

"One video we ran of Obama and his family that we all loved was actually one of the worst performing," he said.

Mr Siroker also said that media standards and practices meant that working for government was sometimes rather restrictive.

The Obama campaign became well known for its innovative use of certain marketing techniques, including the use of Facebook and web video to get its message across during the US election against Republican John McCain.

Online video can be a great way of reaching out to new audiences, especially if they are well utilised for search engine optimisation purposes.
