Obama makes use of online video for question and answer event Barack Obama will answer follow-up questions to key speech on YouTube.
US president Barack Obama is to use YouTube for his upcoming State of the Union speech.
Not only will the event be broadcast live on the video sharing site, he will also give the public a chance to upload questions via video, the most popular of which he will answer at a later date.
White House new media director Macon Phillips said in a post on the White House blog that questions can be submitted at YouTube.com/CitizenTube.
"The White House is using technology to make sure the President's State of the Union Address reaches as many people as possible. Now we are excited to announce how President Obama will also be using the web to offer the public a direct and participatory way to communicate back to him," Mr Phillips said.
Questions can be submitted after the speech begins Wednesday, January 27th at 9pm EST (2am, Thursday 28th, GMT).
The following week, Obama will answer a selection of questions live from the White House.
Obama has been enduring a torrid time of late with the latest Gallup poll giving him an approval rating of just 48 per cent.
