MTV to broadcast gig online Gorillaz concert will be streamed live online.
The potential of online video productions to reach large audiences has been recognised by MTV, which will be broadcasting live an upcoming concert on the internet.
It will be showing a gig by animated band Gorillaz on the group's website, Gorillaz.mtv.com.
The internet broadcast will be one of two upcoming gigs the band, which features former Blur frontman Damon Albarn, will be playing at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, at the end of April.
At the same time, MTV will be streaming tracks from the latest Gorillaz album Plastic Beach over the site.
"It is a potential global audience of millions," Matt Cook, MTV Networks UK & Ireland talent and music programming director, told Music Week.
"mtv.com in the US had 20m unique users, while our main UK site, mtv.co.uk, has 2.5m unique users."
Last year, Irish rock band U2 broadcast a gig at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California live on YouTube, with a reported ten million viewers tuning in.
