Long-form video productions rising in popularity

As the popularity of online video productions grows, web users are increasingly looking to longer content, it has been claimed.

According to figures from eMarketer, the number of people watching online long-form content, such as TV shows and films, is beginning to rise.

It reports that there are currently 58.9 million internet users in the US that watch full-length TV shows online.

The research company forecasts that this will rise to 72.2 million in 2011.

"This shift is the result of a confluence of factors, including the greater availability of long-form content, the popularity of venues such as Hulu and broadcast TV sites, technology developments and internet users' growing comfort with online video," said Paul Verna, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the new report.

However, internet video productions on the whole are becoming increasingly popular and eMarketer predicts that by 2014 77 per cent of US internet users will watch video on the web.

A recent KPMG study revealed that UK web users are still unwilling to pay for online content, including videos.

It found that 81 per cent of UK respondents to the poll said they would go elsewhere if a website began charging for previously free content.ADNFCR-2863-ID-800007755-ADNFCR
