Internet video production views up 37 per cent in a year Figures show UK internet users viewed 5.5 billion videos online in February.
The popularity of internet video productions has skyrocketed in the past year, it has been revealed.
According to the latest comScore Video Matrix, 5.5 billion videos were viewed online in the UK in February 2010, up 37 percent compared to the previous year.
Google strengthened its position as the most popular place to watch internet video, with 17 per cent more people viewing clips on its sites.
In all, Google sites accounted for 2.5 billion of video views in February with YouTube making up 99.6 per cent of these.
The most improved site was social network Facebook, which saw video views grow by 205 per cent to make it the fourth most popular content host.
"In particular, we've seen eyeballs move towards the online channel to watch more long-form, professional video content, such as popular broadcast network TV shows," said Mike Read, comScore Europe's managing director,
"This trend presents a significant opportunity to advertisers, as comScore research has consistently shown that online video advertising is effective at building brands."
It was revealed this week that consumers are also increasingly turning to the internet to shop. The latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index found online spending in March was up 15 per cent year-on-year.
