Hotels urged to adopt online video productions Online video offers numerous advantages over other mediums, says hotel boss.
Companies in the hotel industry have been encouraged to join other firms in exploiting the potential of online video productions.
In an article for 4oteliers.com, Vijay Dandapani, chief executive of a chain of New York hotels, says that retailers have been quick to realise the rapidly increasing demand for online videos.
Despite hotel videos being around for a number of years, he argues that many in the industry have been slow to catch onto the trend.
"[Online video] arguably offers considerably more than static web pages and even virtual tours by providing a truly authentic peek into a hotel's facilities with a nice scale of depth unmatched by photos or most virtual tours and is best integrated into the homepage of a hospitality facility," he says.
"However, the number of hotel websites incorporating video remain relatively small."
Mr Dandapani draws attention to a recent survey emarketer, which found that by 2014 77 per cent of US internet users will be watching online video content at least once a month.
According to Cisco Systems' Visual Networking Index Forecast, video productions will make up 91 per cent of consumer internet traffic by 2014.
