High-speed broadband to boost online sales by £1.4bn Government broadband plans will generate huge revenue for online businesses, it is claimed.
Video production users could find that plans to bring in high-speed broadband internet across the country will bring huge sales opportunities.
A study by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has predicted that as much as £1.4 billion could be generated in online revenue for British businesses.
That is if the government's Digital Britain Universal Service Commitment, which aims to ensure every home in the UK has access to 2Mbps broadband by 2012, is successful.
According to the IPA's Search Group, visitors to websites with a high speed internet connection are 36.9 per cent more likely to buy a product than those with low-speed dial-ups.
Rob Taylor, founder of TST Digital who carried out the research on behalf of the IPA Search Group, said: "It's evident from this research that the government's Digital Britain initiative represents a great opportunity to drive economic growth and competitive advantage.
"Not only could the higher connection speeds result in £1.4 billion more money directly entering the digital economy, it is also likely to lead to more jobs and greater digital expertise, not to mention a fantastic return on investment."
A recent study by the Centre for Retail Research found that UK shoppers spent more time online than anywhere else in Europe.
