Head of RAF recommends YouTube

Britain's armed forces should start creating corporate videos to post on YouTube as part of a social media public relations campaign, it has been claimed.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton said that the forces should learn from their Israeli counterparts who used YouTube, Twitter and blogging to garner support for their recent conflict in Gaza.

"Accurate and timely information has always been critical to the military but its importance is increasing as societies become more networked," he stated.

"This is intimately linked to developments in space and cyber-space; as we saw in the conflict in Gaza in early 2009, operations on the ground were paralleled by operations in cyber-space and an 'info ops' campaign that was fought across the internet."

The RAF currently has its own Facebook page and YouTube channel, which share with the public information on what life is like in the RAF and the work they do.

Formed on April 1st 1918, the RAF is the oldest independent air force in the world.
