HTML5 'not yet ready to support video productions', YouTube states In a new blog posting, a YouTube programmer has explained why the site is to stick with Flash for the time being.
Corporate video productions will continue to be shown through Adobe Flash on YouTube for some time yet, Google has confirmed.
While the past few months have seen the search engine giant voice its enthusiasm for the emerging HTML5 video tag, it has now been announced that its video-sharing site will be sticking with Flash for the time being at least.
Explaining the reasoning behind the thinking, YouTube programmer John Harding stated in an official blog posting that Flash is still the site's "primary video player" as the newer alternative is not yet fully-ready.
"While HTML5's video support enables us to bring most of the content and features of YouTube to computers and other devices that don't support Flash Player, it does not yet meet all of our needs," he wrote.
This comes just days after a new report from Viacom highlighted the extent to which businesses can reach new customers through corporate video productions posted on YouTube.
According to the report, some 14.6 billion videos were watched over the course of May alone.
