Facebook 'is still a strong platform for promotional video productions'

Photo for this news articleA commentator on the online consumer market has argued that Facebook still has a big advantage over other web advertising platforms.

Facebook remains a powerful platform for promotional video productions and other forms of online marketing, despite a fall in user engagement.

New figures compiled by Experian Hitwise show that Facebook users are spending less time on the site, with the average time declining over the last six months from just under 30 minutes to 27.36 minutes.

However, Ben Camm-Jones, news editor for consumer internet magazine Web User, claimed that despite the finding, there is no need for Facebook to panic.

"There was always going to be a time when growth in terms of membership numbers was going to peak in the UK - as long as it levels off rather than declines, Facebook will still continue to be a major player in the web," he said.

Among its other findings, the Experian Hitwise study revealed that Facebook is the second most visited website in the UK, accounting for 7.14 per cent of all UK internet visits in June.

"Facebook still has a big advantage over its rivals as an advertising platform - not only does it have a massive user base, people still spend a lot of time on the site," commented Mr Camm-Jones.
