Expert urges more government action to reach the unconnected Government broadband tax will not help those without connections, it has been claimed.
The government's broadband tax announced earlier this year will not help people get connected to the internet, an expert has claimed.
Keith Warburton, president of the Technology Channels Association, said that without sufficient hardware the tax will mean nothing.
His comments will interest those who use online video production marketing techniques as a greater number of internet-connected people could help them to reach a larger audience.
Writing online for PCR magazine, Mr Warburton said: "The government is going to raise a levy on all fixed phone lines in order to pay for connecting the unconnected. But then what? Is it going to give away several million computers?"
The broadband tax was announced as part of Chancellor Alistair Darling's pre-Budget report. It stipulated that an annual £6 tariff will be levied on all households with a fixed line telephone.
The proceeds are intended to be spent on providing broadband connections to those in remote areas.
