Online advertising, such as video productions, and internet-enabled televisions are both predicted to expand in 2010, says Deloitte.

The accountancy firm's Media Predictions for 2010 report gave a very positive outlook for the growth of the internet in the media consumption sector.

It said that spending on advertising online was expected to grow at a faster rate than the rest of the advertising market.

"In 2010, online advertising spending will grow in absolute dollars and is likely to grow substantially faster than the total advertising market," it said.

Furthermore, online video productions could reach greater audience numbers as the use of TVs to watch internet media is a also predicted to expand.

"Although the majority of web content is designed for PCs, familiar applications - social networks to weather information to content streaming service - are likely to be adapted for television screens next year," said Deloitte.

The report cited a growth in devices such as internet-enabled TVs and set-top boxes and web-connected games consoles to aid this expansion.

This week, it was announced that YouTube will show live sport for the first time when it begins streaming cricket from the Indian Premier League, a move that could help further boost online video consumption and advertising.ADNFCR-2863-ID-19567526-ADNFCR
