Culture secretary: Internet has created huge opportunities for media companies Jeremy Hunt, the new culture secretary, has said the internet has opened up new trade routes for UK firms.
The internet could provide a significant opportunity for companies using video productions, it has been suggested.
Jeremy Hunt, secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport, has outlined the important role the online sphere now plays for the UK's media industry.
"The arrival of the internet is incredibly significant, because this creates for us, as probably the country that is the second largest creator of digital content in the world, an opportunity to trade our products in a new trade route that's never existed before," he said.
However, he also warned that the rise of online media also presented some problems due to piracy and the need to establish new business models.
To this end, he hopes to create a government framework "in tune with the digital age".
It was recently announced that renowned directors Kevin Macdonald and Sir Ridley Scott are to make a movie exclusively from video productions posted on YouTube.
