Corporate video decision explained by Apple

Apple chief Steve Jobs has explained in a letter the company's reasons for rejecting the most common format for viewing videos on the internet.

Flash, which is managed by Adobe Systems, is not available on Apple's mobile platforms and Mr Jobs said the reason for this is the negative effect the technology has on a smartphone's battery life.

In his letter, the Apple boss explained that third-party software can "hinder" the performance of mobile platforms and result in "sub-standard apps".

"We cannot be at the mercy of a third party deciding if and when they will make our enhancements available to our developers," V3.co.uk reported him as stating.

"What [Adobe] doesn't say is that almost all video is available in H.264 and viewable on iPhones, iPods and iPads."

Mr Jobs went on to state that YouTube, which hosts approximately 40 per cent of the internet's web content, "shines" on Apple's platforms.

Today (April 30th), Apple premiered a range of popular movies on the iTunes Store in Ireland.
