Comparethemeerkat.com viral video campaign launched Video based on spoof website created by Comparethemarket.com
Comeparethemarket.com has released a new viral video for its spoof creation Comparethemeerkat.com.
The 60-second clip has aired on television as well as being uploaded onto YouTube.
It continues with the company's hugely successful run of adverts featuring a group of meerkats annoyed at the confusion over their similar-sounding website.
The new film is presented as a trailer for a movie supposedly written by and starring comparethemeerkat.com founder Aleksandr Orlov. The movie depicts the life of Orlov's ancestors as they moved out of Africa to Russia.
According to Marketing Magazine, since the meerkat campaign was launched in January 2009, Orlov has gained over 600,000 fans on Facebook and 31,000 twitter followers.
Comparethemarket.com has also seen a 100 per cent uplift in visits to its website as a result, showing the power video and social media can have in the field of digital marketing.
Last month, Industry research group Visible Measures revealed the top ten viral video ad campaigns of 2009.
Claiming the number one spot was Evian's "Roller skating Baby" campaign which managed to gain an incredible 55 million views.
