Cisco predicts mobile video production boom Video will make up two-thirds of mobile internet use by 2014, Cisco says.
The number of people watching online video productions via internet-connected mobile devices is set to boom in the next few years, a report by Cisco predicts.
According to the company's Global Mobile Data Forecast, video content will account for nearly two-thirds (66 per cent) of all mobile data traffic by 2014.
Based on real-world data usage studies and a summary of independent analysts' forecasts, Cisco claimed there will be more than five billion personal devices connected to mobile internet networks in the next four years.
This expansion will be driven mainly by smartphones, such as the Apple iPhone, and laptops with internet connecting air cards, with these two devices making up 90 per cent of mobile traffic by 2014, Cisco said.
Doug Webster, senior director of service provider marketing for Cisco, said: "Mobile data traffic is growing faster than expected five years ago.
"In spite of the economic downturn, the demand for mobile services has remained high, posing both challenges and opportunities for service providers worldwide."
Last Month, senior vice president of the Cisco's emerging technologies group Marthin De Beer said that he expected that 90 per cent of traffic on the internet will be video-related by 2019.
