Channel 4 to launch video production app on PlayStation 3? A new app for Channel 4's 4oD could be launched on Sony's games console.
Broadcaster Channel 4 could be about to make its online video productions more widely available.
It has been reported that the channel is looking to launch an app for its on-demand service 4oD on the Sony PlayStation 3.
Furthermore, it is also looking into a similar scheme for Apple's new iPad tablet computer.
"We're looking to launch on the PS3," a source from Channel 4 told the news provider," a source told Broadcast magazine. "4oD is becoming a platform agnostic product and will be successful because of the quality of the content."
If it were to go ahead with the PS3 project, the company would become the first commercial rival to the BBC's iPlayer which has had a dedicated app for the Sony console for some time.
Broadcasters have looked for a number of ways to extend the reach of their video productions in recent times - Xbox 360 offers Sky Player while 4oD is available on Virgin Media's on-demand service as well as YouTube.
It was recently reported in the Telegraph that ITV is also in talks to launch a PS3 application.
