BT to offer rivals access to high-speed broadband Company to allow other broadband providers to use underground ducts.
Companies that use online corporate videos could benefit from the news that BT is to offer rival providers access to its high-speed broadband infrastructure.
The news could lead to a greater UK coverage of high-speed broadband, which could in turn increase the scope and potential audience of online video productions.
According to the Financial Times, BT will allow other companies to use the underground ducts it is building to run optical fibre cable across the country.
Ian Livingston, BT's chief executive, told the news provider: "Although it's unlikely to be the silver bullet to get fibre to every home, open access to all ducts, not just ours, might help BT and others extend coverage and so we would like to see a future government support such a move."
BT is spending £1.5 billion in its high-speed internet project, which it hopes will allow customers to download information at a speed of 40Mbps.
Research undertaken by broadband.co.uk in January shows that UK broadband speeds increased by 22 per cent on average last year.
