Yahoo/Microsoft deal will impact SEO, says expert

The formalisation of a deal between Yahoo and Microsoft may influence the way companies that use corporate video productions to boost search engine optimisation (SEO) operate.

Yahoo has agreed to let Microsoft's Bing search engine power search results for the Yahoo brand.

Last week, the project was given the go-ahead by the European Union's competioion watchdog, the European Commission.

It also received backing US Department of Justice, leaving the path clear for the deal to progress.

An expert has claimed that firms using SEO will now need to adapt their approach to suit the new partnership.

Speaking to UTalkMarketing.com, Adam Bunn, head of SEO at Greenlight, said: "Microsoft has a good chance of increasing Bing's market share over the next year.

"That could make 'Microhoo' worth paying much more attention to from an SEO perspective."

However, the two companies still have a long way to go to rival market leaders Google, which currently enjoys 90 per cent of the world's search market, compared to 7.4 per cent for Yahoo and Bing combined.
