Yahoo/Microsoft deal close to EU approval Deal that could affect video SEO close to gaining go-ahead from EU
The European Commission looks set to approve a search engine deal between Yahoo and Microsoft, it has been reported.
If it goes ahead, the partnership could effect video production search engine optimization (SEO) by challenging Google's dominance in the search market.
The ten-year deal will see Microsoft Bing power the Yahoo search brand in an effort to rival Google's tight grip on the search engine industry.
It is understood that the EU's competition watchdog, the European Commission, will approve the deal before its self-imposed deadline this Friday (February 19th).
"I expect clearance without any concessions next Friday," a Microsoft source told Reuters.
However, the deal will still need the green-light from the US Justice Department, which will most-likely make its decision in the summer.
Meanwhile, Google-owned video streaming site YouTube is celebrating its fifth birthday this week.
Chad Hurley, co-founder and chief executive of YouTube, said on the company's blog: "We're looking forward to celebrating our fifth anniversary throughout the year and hope you'll keep watching, keep uploading, keep sharing, keep informing, keep entertaining, and keep discovering the world through video."
