Video key to SEO success says business expert Video can profoundly increase odds of getting a page one search result, it is claimed.
A leading American business expert has claimed that online video is the key to achieving a high search engine ranking.
Steve Strauss, senior USAtoday.com small business columnist, believes that well thought-out video production can drastically improve search engine optimisation (SEO).
Writing on Openforum.com, Mr Strauss said: "The answer is video. But not just any old video. It has to be search engine optimized video. Properly post that, and according to a recent study by Forrester Research, you stand a 53 times better chance of getting a page one Google ranking."
He explained that, due to Google's increasing use of "blended" search results incorporating different types of content, and the lack of competition with other SEO submitted video, the technique is a great way to stand out on a results page.
But he warned that videos must be properly SEO formatted for this to work. This can be done by adding key words and phrases in the file name and the captions, and submitting it using XML tools to search engines.
Recently, Eva Berg-Winters, digital media expert at professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, predicted 2010 will see strong growth in the online marketing sector.
