Use social media videos to boost SEO, says expert Interesting content will lead to more links through social media sites.
Video content posted on social media sites can significantly boost search engine optimisation (SEO), an expert has claimed.
According to Andreas Roell, president and chief executive of American marketing agency Geary Interactive, creating interesting content such as videos will mean it is discussed and linked to on social sites and forums.
Writing in iMedia Connection, Mr Roell said: "The more people referencing content, the more traction it will gain, and this buzz will drive consumers to search engines, where they be directed to branded web properties."
He advised that self-promotion of content does not work well on social media platforms so the content must be interesting enough to get people talking.
Furthermore, social media gives companies the chance to create more unique key words that reference the marketing campaign rather than the product directly, Mr Roell said.
His comments follow recent reports that Google has patented a new technology that could change the way internet videos are used.
The company, which owns video sharing site YouTube, patented plans to add interactivity to videos by making the already-in-use annotations on YouTube videos perform actions and affect what happens in the video when clicked by viewers.
