Social media 'likely to improve SEO' Using social media can increase a website's visibility on search engine results, says expert.
Video productions on social media sites such as YouTube and Facebook could be a good way to improve search engine optimisation (SEO).
According to Jake Hird, senior research analyst at digital marketing community Econsultancy, exploiting social media can allow a website or brand to appear higher up the rankings in search results.
"If you have a social media presence you're more likely to be visible in a search result because of the authority of the site, the link building and the sort of presence that you've got," he said.
Using blogging as an example, he added: "everyone knows if you blog it improves your natural search visibility, and of course a blog is social media."
His comments follow a recent report from online competitive intelligence service Experian Hitwise, which revealed the rising popularity of social media.
It found that in May this year, social networks accounted for 11.88 per cent of UK internet visits, the first time such sites have outperformed search engines, which made up 11.33 per cent of webpage views.
