Companies that use online video productions on sites such as YouTube could benefit from a new guide published by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and Microsoft Advertising.

The report, called Search and Social Media: making your brand stand out, provides advice on how to marry search engine optimisation (SEO) with the increasingly popular phenomenon of social media.

Cedric Chambaz, marketing manager for Microsoft Advertising said: "In today's online world, it is important that brands maximise the full possibilities of digital, understand the synergies between search and social media and the impact that has on their business."

According to Kieron Matthews, marketing director at the IAB, the report demonstrates "how search has adapted to social interaction and how brands need to keep up and shield their online presence".

It is available to download for free from the IAB website.

The report comes at the same time as statistics from InSites Consulting reveal that more than three quarters (77 per cent) of the UK's online population use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
