Google to push video on search results says expert Properly formatted video is now a key marketing tool, it has been claimed.
An expert on search engine optimisation (SEO) has predicted that video will become an increasingly important component of appearing on Google search results.
Eric McGehearty, owner of US consultancy Globe Runner SEO, believes that Google's recent purchase offer for video compression technology company On2 Technologies, is a sign it will make video more prominent on search results.
"I see Google pushing video as a larger component in search results," said Mr McGehearty.
He went on to say that because of this development, proper formatting is now key to online video marketing.
"Because Google will be looking at all content, it's important to have captioning, and it's another reason to make certain to include alt tags on all graphics," he said, adding: "Not only is this of value to business by making there videos and sites more searchable, it increases website access for people with disabilities."
His views are backed up by Steve Strauss, senior USAtoday.com small business columnist, who recently stated on Openforum.com that well thought-out video production can drastically improve search engine optimisation (SEO).
