European Commission approves Yahoo/Microsoft search deal Yahoo and Microsoft have agreed to combine forces in search engine market.
A deal that could affect search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies for video production companies has been granted approval from the EU's competition watchdog.
Following the decision from the European Commission (EC) Microsoft and Yahoo are now free to implement a partnership which will see the former power the latter's search brand using its Bing search engine.
It is hoped the ten-year deal will allow the two companies to rival Google's stranglehold on the search engine market.
If successful, it could lead to companies that use video productions having to reconsider their SEO strategies to suit the rival search engine.
Commenting on the EC's decision, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said: "Although we are just at the beginning of this process, we have reached an exciting milestone.
"I believe that together, Microsoft and Yahoo! will promote more choice, better value and greater innovation to our customers as well as to advertisers and publishers."
Google currently enjoys 90 per cent of the world's search market, compared to 7.4 per cent for Yahoo and Bing combined.
