BBC to use search engine optimisation British news provider the BBC is to begin using search engine optimisation techniques.
The importance of search engine optimisation has been highlighted by the BBC, which is to begin optimising its headlines.
In a blog, the BBC's Steve Herman wrote that there would be a "slight change" to the headlines of some stories.
"Our developers have done a bit of work to allow journalists the scope to create two headlines for a story if they want to," he wrote.
Mr Herman added that the practice of search engine optimisation "is an important area" for the BBC.
"A growing number of users come to stories on the BBC site from places other than our own front page for example search engines, other sites, personal recommendations, Twitter or RSS feeds," he wrote.
Commenting on the move, Sam Tilston, online marketing director of vitabits.co.uk said that it was important for those utilising optimisation techniques to not get carried away, as too many keywords in a headline can lead to a penalty from Google.
