iPad to improve video production?

Apple's new iPad might improve internet video production by not being compatible with Adobe Flash Player, an expert has said.

Writing for CNN, Pete Cashmore, a social media expert, claimed that Apple's refusal to use the industry standard might be an attempt to get it ditched for the simpler HTML5.

Currently being experimented with by YouTube, HTML5 allows video to be streamed directly to a web browser rather than through an additional programme.

"That could be good news for web users, as you'd no longer need to install or update the Flash plug-in to view web video - installing a web browser would be enough," said Mr Cashmore.

However, for the time being, most websites, with the exception of YouTube, still use Adobe's plug-in, meaning their video will not work on Apple's new device.

And Mr Cashmore is not convinced Apple's move will be enough to turn the tide against Flash.

"Whatever Apple's reasoning, lack of Flash on iPhones and iPads ultimately confuses users, while YouTube and other video sharing sites look set to popularise HTML5 without Apple's assistance," he said.

A British firm, X2 Computing, announced this week that it was taking on Apple with its own tablet device named the iTablet.ADNFCR-2863-ID-19600870-ADNFCR
