YouTube launches auto-captioning for video productions New tool will improve accessibility to videos, claims YouTube.
Video productions on YouTube will now come with automatic captioning to improve accessibility for those with hearing problems.
Using voice recognition technology, the feature will recognise words being spoken on the video and display them on the screen.
The tool will also be able to translate videos into dozens of different languages with just a click of a button.
Companies that use video productions as part of marketing strategies could find the move enables them to reach a larger audience as it increases accessibility.
YouTube product manager Hiroto Tokusei wrote on the site's official blog: "Twenty hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute.
"Making some of these videos more accessible to people who have hearing disabilities or who speak different languages, not only represents a significant advancement in the democratization of information, it can also help foster greater collaboration and understanding."
Search engine giant Google, which owns YouTube, recently announced an auto-translation feature for its Chrome web browser which will enable users to view foreign sites in their own language.
