Tablets to be the next big thing in video production? Manufacturers to present new tablets at electronics show.
With several companies unveiling tablet computers at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, the new technology could become a major platform for video production in the near future.
Tablet computers are billed as somewhere between a mobile phone and a laptop and designed to be ultra-portable devices for surfing the internet and watching movies on the move.
They use touch-screen technology and have a virtual keyboard that appears on the screen.
One company, Freescale, has already shown off a prototype and other companies are expected to follow at the CES. Apple are rumoured to be developing their own tablet called the iSlate.
Henri Richard, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Freescale, called the tablet the "missing link" between PCs and smartphones, such as Apple's iPhone.
"The PC has been stale in terms of its ability to innovate. Smartphones have been making progress, but they have limitations," he said.
The CES is the world's largest trade show for the consumer electronics industry. It is held each year in January in Las Vegas and this year will run for three days from the 7th.
